Caring for Widows and Orphans
Relocate and Assist Orphans
When possible, the ministry works to place and keep children withfamily, often a widowed grandmother or aunt. These new families are assisted with food as well as clothing, medicine, school fees and other basic necessities. Currently there are approximately 110 children in 65 different homes. Some 300 children are involved in a feeding program.
“Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.” (James 1:27)
Children in desperate situations, without a family able or willing to care for them, are moved to Onesmus and Esther’s home in Machakos. The home currently houses seven children. Several acres of land have been purchased in order to build a larger home to accommodate more children in desperate situations.
“God sets the solitary in families.”(Psalm 68:6)
Train and Educate Children
The ministry pays the school fees of the children involved in the program in order to encourage them to discover and pursue their God-given gifts and talents. Additionally, Esther’s sister, Isabel, has joined Onesmus and Esther as the full-time caretaker for the 7 fostered children. She works individually with each child to address their educational, spiritual, and nutritional needs.
“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” (Proverbs 22:6)
